Attendees of the ESU Day Zero memorial last night were shocked when the announcement of a new Helix chapter on campus turned violent. After speeches from Bethany Moore and Carlie Barlet, two prominent HeliX leaders, anti-mutant protesters demonstrated their ire at the new ESU Helix leaders, Charles Rowe and Charlotte Lincoln by hurling abuse at the pair. A larger fight broke out after one protester threw a bottle on stage. The brawl that followed was dispersed through the combined efforts of the local police, members of the crowd both human and mutant.
Rebecca Black, spokesperson for ESU's Day Zero Victims United, condemned the attack, labeling it "in poor taste" and "besmirching the memories of those whose deaths we were remembering".
This morning Rowe and Lincoln published an apology on the new ESU HeliX website, stating "it was not our intention to cause any pain to those who had gathered yesterday evening".
The office of ESU's provost, has condemned the violence, stating "there is no call for that sort of behavior on campus" and has called for a meeting between the HeliX leaders and DZVU to discuss the situation, and where to go from here. All interested parties are invited to attend the meeting, to be held tomorrow afternoon at 4pm. For more details, please check the website.
